Young Farmers Advance in National Competitions

Today, young farmers from Stearns County, Renville County and Goodhue County advanced in American Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) competitions. The contests are being held at the American Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas which runs January 11 – 15.


Lucas Sjostrom of Brooten in Stearns County advanced to the Sweet 16 in the Discussion Meet and will compete again Monday morning. Morgan Allen of Kenyon in Goodhue County advanced to the Top 10 in the Excellence in Agriculture contest, and Joe and April Sullivan of Franklin in Renville County advanced to the Top 10 in the Achievement Award contest. The final results of each of these competitions will be announced at the end of the Closing Session on Monday, January 13.


The YF&Rs advanced to the AFBF competition after capturing top honors at the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers contests in November at the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting.


More than 70 Farm Bureau members from Minnesota are among the over 7,000 Farm Bureau members representing each state and Puerto Rico at the AFBF Annual Meeting. The meeting also features workshops and seminars, as well as, the national resolutions session which set policies for the upcoming year.
