Northwest Regional Farm Bureau donated and presented a Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) book bundle to both Roseau Elementary and Badger Elementary schools on April 13.
“We are excited to provide elementary students in our area the opportunity to read about agriculture,” said Shayne Isane, Northwest Regional Farm Bureau President. “Agriculture is an important part of our communities, and these books are a great way to show our commitment to education.”
Each bundle of books provides fiction and nonfiction books that focus on a wide variety of topics that represent agricultural plants and animals, food and natural resources. The book bundles also include an educator guide to stimulate appropriate discussion and extend student learning beyond the book itself. The bundles and educator guide are a program of MAITC.
In addition, Farm Bureau members highlighted the importance of soil to farmers while working with 4th grade students in the schools. The 30-minute presentation included an apple as the world activity, followed by the opportunity for to learn about locally grown crops including soybeans, corn, wheat and more.
