The following Young Farmers and Ranchers contests are held at the Minnesota Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in November.
Achievement Award
Goal setting and a strong business plan are items on the farm you often think are important, but never get the time to review. Here is your opportunity. The Farm Bureau Achievement Award is an application based contest which compares your operation's goals and successes to other young farmers across Minnesota and the United States. The application is judged on your goals, your operational success, your financial planning and your leadership skills. Young farmers and their spouses, ages 18-35, are encouraged to check out this great award program.
Applications are due April 15.

Discussion Meet
Farm Bureau's strength depends on its members' ability to analyze agricultural problems and decide on solutions that best meet their needs. If you are looking to hone your discussion skills, develop a better understanding of issues affecting agriculture, and exploring how groups can pool knowledge to reach consensus and solve problems, this contest is for you! Discussion meet applicants must be between the age of 18-35 years.
The 2013 Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) Discussion Meet will take place on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Leadership Conference in Bloomington, Minnesota. The top eight contestants will move on to the final round which will be held at the 2013 Annual Conference in November.
Applications are due January 11, 2013.
In order to be eligible to represent Minnesota at the 2014 American Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in San Antonio, contestants must compete in the preliminary rounds of the Discussion Meet at the 2013 Leadership Conference in Bloomington.
Excellence In Agriculture
Here is the right opportunity for those young farmers and ranchers who may not farm 100 percent of the time. The Farm Bureau Excellence in Agriculture Contest is designed as an opportunity for young farmers and ranchers to earn recognition while actively contributing to the agriculture industry and building their leadership skills through their involvement in Farm Bureau and their community. This presentation based contest asks young farmers between the ages of 18-35 to fill out an application listing their accomplishments, experiences, and leadership involvement. The presentation will be an interactive interview in which the contestant has an opportunity to share the contents of their application in a narration format. The only visual means in which to deliver the presentation is through a PowerPoint presentation.
Applications are due July 15.
