Farm Bureau members in Minnesota understand how working together works. We are familiar with the acronym TEAM - Together Everyone Accomplishes More or Together Everyone Achieves More. You may have seen me reference my favorite wrestling team quote – “The strength of the team is found in each individual, the strength of each individual is found in the team.” No matter how you say it, working together works.
Minnesota farm families understand that working together works. Everyday families and many times multi-generations of the family work together to grow our crops and care for our animals. In farming and ranching, we are truly blessed to have the opportunity to work together with other family members on a daily basis and see first-hand how we can accomplish more by working together as a team. Many times in agriculture a family farm will partner up with another family farm to make the best use of their resources and time which is a great example of working together.
Farm Bureau members work together in their county or regional Farm Bureau to accomplish our mission “to be an advocate for agriculture driven by beliefs and policies of our members.” But it doesn’t stop there, our 78 local Farm Bureau organizations make up our Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation to give us strength and speak with one voice for agriculture on the statewide level. The Puerto Rico and 50 state Farm Bureaus make up the American Farm Bureau Federation to present that same unified voice on the national level. Minnesota Farm Bureau has been and continues to be an active voice on the Farm Bill and testified before Congress on the important role trade plays in our day-to-day lives.
Minnesota Farm Bureau staff are an important part of the Farm Bureau team in Minnesota. While we are busy harvesting, our staff is equally busy. At this time of the year, they are our boots on the ground representing us with elected officials, following regulatory issues, coordinating farm visits with government officials from other countries, coordinating or conducting media interviews, assisting in Collegiate Discussion Meets and putting the final touches on our upcoming 100th annual meeting.
Over 75 years ago, Farm Bureau members worked together in forming Farm Bureau Financial Services (FBFS) to provide insurance as a member benefit. Today, FBFS provides auto, liability, home/property, farm/ranch, long-term care, disability and health insurance, in addition to a wide range of investment tools and financial planning services. Minnesota Farm Bureau has a seat at the board room table of FBFS to provide guidance and direction, ensuring the services provided by FBFS meet the needs of our members.
You will be reading this shortly before or right after the 2018 election. We have already been reaching out to candidates on both sides of the aisle conducting candidate interviews, coordinating farm visits and developing working relationships. We know we will have a new Governor in Minnesota which means a new administration. We are looking forward to working with our next Governor and providing input as he puts together his new team.
Farm Bureau members will soon work together at our 100th MFBF Annual Meeting. I invite you to join us November 16-17 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Bloomington. This is a time for all Farm Bureau members to celebrate our accomplishments, learn more about topics important to agriculture and our role in making a positive difference in defining our future. I look forward to visiting with you at our Annual Meeting. Thank you to all of our members for everything you do for our organization and all of agriculture across our state and nation.
