Each week during the Minnesota legislative session, the Minnesota Farm Bureau will highlight its work with elected officials to support our members and agriculture. While we advocate for our members on a wide variety of topics, our Board of Directors set six priority issues for the 2022 state legislative session, and our efforts to advance those issues are highlighted below. 

Recap: Week of Feb. 28-March 4, 2022

During the week, our public policy team and leadership connected with elected officials and other policy influencers to share our member's stories, and build relationships to reinforce our position as a leader in agriculture issues in Minnesota. 

Additionally, our members and staff provided several testimonies:

H.F. 3169 (Olson, L.) Greater Minnesota Child Care Facility Program Funding Provided, and Money Appropriated: MFBF Supports this bill; written testimony was submitted. This bill supports our 2022 priority issue to support and strengthen our rural communities. 

H.F. 3307 (Nelson, N.) Farm Machinery Definition Modified to Include Fencing Material, and Exemption Provided for Construction Material for Farm Fencing Material: MFBF supports this bill; Director of Public Policy Amber Glaeser testified in support. This bill supports MFBF’s leadership in providing drought relief for Minnesota farmers and ranchers. 

H.F. 3640 (N. Nelson) Meat and Poultry Processor Training Grant Funding Provided, and Money Appropriated: MFBF supports this bill; Director of Public Policy Amber Glaeser testified in support. This bill supports our 2022 priority issue to address food and agriculture supply chain challenges.

S.F. 2937 (Dahms) VDL Equipment Appropriation: MFBF supports this bill and that support was communicated during the bill’s hearing. This supports our 2022 priority issue to drive the future of agriculture in Minnesota through research, innovation and investment. 

S.F. 3479 (Westrom) Drought Relief: MFBF supports this bill; President Dan Glessing and Board Member Miles Kuschel testified in support; written testimony was also submitted. This bill supports MFBF’s leadership in providing drought relief for Minnesota farmers and ranchers.
