Maple River Public Schools teacher Mike Sheely has been named the Minnesota Farm Bureau FFA Advisor of the Year, announced during the Awards Night of the organization’s 104th Annual Meeting on Friday, Nov. 18 in Bloomington.

Since beginning his career at Maple River 10 years ago, Mike has touched the lives of many students. He is constantly focused on the betterment of his students and the community. It is his drive and passion that translates into success not only for his FFA chapter but also the success of the students and the community behind them. For the last three years, Maple River had the most teams in the state competing at the Minnesota State FFA Convention. In 2022, Maple River had 10 teams place in the Top 7 and two state champion teams. In addition, 20 of Sheely's students placed as Top 10 individuals.

Mike works closely with the Blue Earth County Farm Bureau on many projects throughout the year including Farm Bureau Safety Camp. Each year, FFA students teach third grade students on various farm safety topics. Maple River students also assist Blue Earth County Farm Bureau by serving at their Breakfast on the Farm.

Sheely is also involved in his community through the Maple River Education Association and in his church where he serves as a mentor for high school men in catechism classes. Mike, his wife Whitney and their three children live in Mapleton.
