We are currently hiring two positions: a Northwest MN Membership & Marketing Specialist and a Leadership Specialist!

Northwest MN Membership & Marketing Specialist
The Northwest MN Membership & Marketing Specialist strengthens county and regional Farm Bureaus (CFB’s) by serving as a primary liaison between CFB’s and MFBF. The role provides leadership, guidance, and resources to county boards and volunteers to help them plan and execute high-impact initiatives aligned with the MFBF Strategic Plan. Key outcomes include growing and retaining membership, expanding member engagement (including young farmers and ag professionals), supporting local governance and leadership development, improving county communications and brand presence, and coordinating with partners such as Farm Bureau Financial Services. The position also supports policy development activities at the county level and assists with statewide events as assigned.

Coverage Area:
This position supports Becker, Clay, East Otter Tail, East Polk, Kittson, Mahnomen, Norman, Northwest Regional (Roseau, Marshall, Pennington), West Otter Tail, West Polk and Wilkin CFB’s.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in planning and carrying out membership recruitment and retention plans with the goal of achieving membership growth.
  • Assist in identification of non-renewing members and potential new members.
  • Assist in developing and implementing membership recruitment strategies.
  • Promote existing member benefit programs. 
  • Responsible for reporting changes of CFB officers and board members to MFBF to provide a current and up-to-date contact list.
  • Assist CFB’s in communications strategies to reach members and increase the Farm Bureau brand.
  • Assist with preparation of annual meeting notices to CFB members.
  • Assist in distribution of MFBF materials and information to designated recipients.
  • Provide training of CFB directors and officers based on materials developed by MFBF
  • Encourage participation in state leadership development programs 
  • Provide guidance on governance to assigned CFB’s to ensure effective county/regional offices, and impactful board and committee meetings.
  • Encourage member participation and lead surfacing and recruiting efforts for volunteer involvement in programs and activities.
  • Engage young farmers, ranchers, and other ag professionals to participate in Farm Bureau activities at the local or state level. 
  • Provide support for all state committees (Resolutions, P&E and YF&R) by surfacing members and creating interest in serving as a representative.
  • Provide support for the Minnesota Farm Bureau Political Action Committee (PAC) by surfacing members for local committees, organizing and conducting candidate interviews with County Evaluation Committees.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Farm Bureau Financial Services agents to increase awareness of Farm Bureau benefits and programs.
  • Provide support for organizing and scheduling of Farm Bureau policy development meetings at the county/regional level.
  • Support the MN Foundation for Agriculture (MFA) by promoting and encouraging CFB support and participation and by assisting and attending MFA events.
  • Other duties assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated capability to work independently, as a self-starter, in a proactive manner to support the MFBF Strategic Plan as a liaison to the CFB’s.
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related field. 
  • Ability to build consensus/relationships with members, partners, and volunteers.
  • Ability to understand emerging issues quickly and make wise decisions.
  • Ability to inspire confidence, create trust and reflect the values of Farm Bureau.
  • Ability to attend, coordinate, and facilitate professional meetings and/or events
  • Primarily 25% in-home office and 75% travel. Working during non-traditional office hours will be required (nights / weekends - may require overnight stays)
  • Residence within assigned region and valid driver’s license 
  • Time management and organizational skills to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products. Excel proficiency a plus.
  • Work experience in agriculture or related field.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry materials up to 50 pounds

This is a permanent full-time position based out of a home office in Northwest Minnesota.

Salary range is $45,000-$60,000, based on experience.

Leadership Specialist

This position will develop and execute effective Young Farmers & Ranchers and other leadership programming for the Minnesota Farm Bureau.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the staff coordinator for the Young Farmer & Ranchers (YF&R) program
  • Assist committee volunteer leaders and staff with carrying out the objectives and goals of the YF&R program
  • Coordinate and carry out all levels of YF&R competitions (YF&R Achievement Award, YF&R Excellence in Agriculture, YF&R Discussion Meet, Collegiate Discussion Meet, and FFA Discussion Meet)
  • Coordinate Farm Bureau’s involvement with youth programming, including (but not limited to): collegiate discussion meet, collegiate agriculture organizations, 4-H, and FFA
  • Assist in coordinating new and existing leadership and education programs
  • Assist in coordinating the annual leadership conference (planning, implementation, and facilitation)
  • Develop innovative strategies and programs, in cooperation with the respective state committees, to meet the purposes of the leadership and education programs
  • Inform and drive education and leadership programming at the direction of the leadership and education manager
  • Assist with Urban Agriculture programming efforts
  • Coordinate and collaborate on various projects, activities, meetings, events which are held throughout the year, including scheduling on-site and off-site meeting/events
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Support the MN Foundation for Agriculture (MFA) by promoting and encouraging county Farm Bureau support and participation and by assisting and attending MFA events

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural leadership, communications, education, or relevant field
  • Ability to engage and guide volunteer leaders
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently, as a self-starter, in a proactive fashion to recognize necessary steps for successful accomplishment of projects and activities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among board members, partners, and volunteers
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan workload effectively and delegate
  • Personal computer literacy with skills and knowledge of MS Office products with ability to expand computer capabilities to develop additional skill sets for new systems as required to match changing circumstances. Excel proficiency a plus
  • Working knowledge of agriculture
  • Work experience in agriculture or related field 

This is a permanent full-time position located at the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation offices in Eagan, MN.

Salary range is $45,000-$57,000, based on experience.
