What is the LeadAg Institute?

LeadAg Institute is a one-year leadership development program for individuals committed to growing as leaders and strengthening the future of agriculture and rural Minnesota. LeadAg emphasizes learning through experience, thoughtful dialogue, and exposure to diverse viewpoints within agriculture and agricultural policy. Participants are encouraged to challenge their assumptions, broaden their understanding of the industry, and develop the confidence to engage effectively on complex and evolving issues.

LeadAg prepares participants to become informed, engaged leaders who contribute at the county and community levels while growing into broader leadership roles within Farm Bureau and the agricultural community. Through the program, participants strengthen their ability to engage in policy-driven advocacy, communicate about agriculture with clarity and credibility, and build meaningful relationships across the ag industry.

What are the Expectations?

A core expectation of the LeadAg Institute is the application of learning—participants are expected to take the knowledge, skills, and perspectives gained through the program and actively apply them in their local communities to help strengthen the future of agriculture in Minnesota.

Program participants that are selected will be responsible for securing a $750 enrollment fee.

In addition to attending program sessions, applicants should be prepared to engage in the following components as part of their leadership development experience:

  • Development of an individual Leadership Development Plan & Capstone, designed to help you identify personal leadership goals and areas for growth throughout the program.
  • Light homework or reflection assignments that align with session topics and connect directly back to your Leadership Development Plan & Capstone.
  • Optional virtual preparation calls or webinars offered throughout the program to support learning, discussion, and connection with peers and program staff.
  • Presentation of your Leadership Capstone at the conclusion of the program to program staff and/or relevant board or committee members, demonstrating your growth and takeaways.

These elements are intended to help participants apply what they are learning in meaningful, practical ways and to support continued growth beyond the program experience.

Participants who attend all sessions, actively participate, and present their leadership capstone are eligible for reimbursement.
